Boating is like no other activity.  It’s fun, satisfying and no better way to release stress than spending a day on the water.   That being said, safety is of utmost importance…

Keep these tips in mind when trailering.

Are all parts and bolts tight?

Make sure all parts and bolts are tight on the boat trailer.

Is the boat trailer secure? Have tilt and down mechanisms been checked?

Secure load to trailer. Check tilt and down mechanisms – Use extra rope as a safety measure.

When to check tire pressure in cold temperatures.

Check tire pressure when tire is cold. We suggest taking this precaution for a better boat towing experience regardless of weather conditions.

Have trailer bearings been repacked within a year?

Repack wheels bearings once a year, preferably in the Fall before storing trailer.

Are you exceeding trailer capacity?

Make sure you are not exceeding boat trailer or trailer capacity.

Is the coupler securely latched to the hitch ball?

Make sure coupler is securely latched to the hitch ball. Check each time you stop and leave trailer.

Are cross safety chains under tongue and secure to towing vehicle?

Make sure cross safety chains are under trailer tongue and secure to towing vehicle.

Is the trailer electrical connector is properly connected and all lights operating?

Make sure boat trailer electrical is working properly and all lights are working.

Have breaking operations been checked?

If using a breaking system make sure to check that its working properly.

Is the jack raised to its highest position?

Make sure the trailer jack is raised to its highest position.

Are all gates and latches secured?

Make sure all gates and latches are secured.

Are all tires inflated correctly?

Sometimes tires change in pressure due to climate. Please make sure all tires have the correct PSI and do not look flat when your boat is on the trailer.

Is the trailer correctly and safely connected to your vehicle?

All trailers should be placed on the correct size ball. Latched down and in the locked position. The 2 chains should be latched on as well.  These safety measures are there for your protection. USE THEM!

Are your lights working properly?

Make sure your light cable is connected tightly. A loose fit will cause light and brake malfunctions.  Put your hazards on, left and right blinkers and brakes to make sure they work.

Is the front winch strap in locked position?

There are 3 positions on the front winch: Forward, reverse and neutral (Some only have forward and reverse).  Make sure it is in the forward locked position when driving.

Is your boat strapped down?

We strongly suggest that you strap down the rear end of your boat.  Use the eye hooks on the stern of your boat and strap them down to your trailer to reduce bounding on the road.

Drive Safely!!

Remember your car or truck is now 15’-50’ longer than it was before.  When towing, we strongly recommend driving no faster than 55 MPH and TAKE YOUR TIME when switching lanes.  Learn how to use reverse and take your turns very wide.
